C. Gigantic Carbon Co.,Ltd is the largest Activated Carbon Manufacturer in Thailand. CGC was founded in 1990 and started operation in 1993. In the first year, the company’s production capacity was at 1,500 tons per year. The company continually increases its capacity and reached the production level of 10500 tons per year by end of year 2005.

The company policy intends to improve the efficiency of operation, quality control; of the products as well as packaging to ensure customer satisfaction. Therefore, the company has implemented the International Standard Organization (ISO 9002) operation system since year 2000 and certified in year 2001.Today, we received ISO 9001:2000 , NSF Standard, Halal certified

Due to fast growing of activated carbon market and because of environmental concern, more and more spent carbon is discharged ever year. The quantities is become sufficient for doing activation C. Gigantic Carbon Co.,Ltd. Had started construction rotary kiln for regeneration (in nakornratchasima) and finished end of 2004.

In may 2005, calgon carbon cooporation has reached agreement withc.gigantic carbon and set up new company name “ calgon carbon (thailand) co., ltd.” To operate the regeneration. C.gigantic carbon held 80% and calgon carbon cooporation held 20% of shares in the new company. Its head office is same place as c. Gigantic carbon. New facility has capacity of regeneration spent carbon 2,500 m/t per year. Its main customers are in eastern sea board industrial area.

What is activated carbon?

Activated carbon is carbon base that has been treated to have remarkable pore volume for foreign substance adsorption. Activated carbon can be made from various materials with high carbon content such as coconut shell, palm shell, wood charcoal or coal. Raw material has a large impact on the characteristics and performance of activated carbon. Coconut shell activated carbon has a very high number of micro pores which is good for the removal of smaller organic compounds with strong odors and dechlorination application. On the other hand, wood based activated carbon suits for color removal due to its higher number of meso and macro pores inside. One of the processes producing activated carbon is activation. Charcoal or carbonized material will be processed at high temperature, about 900-1200 degree Celsius, with oxygen controlling and converted to activated carbon. 1 gram of activated carbon has a total surface area more than 500 m3 which can be determined by several methods.
